Hi,

Could someone explain to me why the answer cannot be B? I would pick E over B also, but I just dont see a plane of symmetry in B.

I'm not seeing that on my online syllabus thing. All I have are Natural Sciences Section Test A, B and then Organic Chemistry Subject tests 1-5
 
coz if you rotate that -OH group on the second carbon it becomes a meso compound. Look at the top and bottom end of the sugars. B has both carboxyl group whereas E has 1 aldehyde and 1 carboxylic. So there is no way that any of the compound can become meso. Yea it kinda tricked me too when I was taking it until I saw choice E!!!

yea he is talking about SNS section test A lol
