How long after taking the Kaplan course would any of you recommend taking the DAT? I don't want to take it too far in advance of taking the exam for fear of forgetting anything they might teach. I'm getting another job to pay for the course; I figure I need all the help I can get to score well to be able to compete.

Thoughts?

I never took the Kaplan course and I did just fine 19/18/22. I got a book from a friend after he took the class and studied from it on my own. The thing with Kaplan is that it is all a review of classes you should have already taken. I found that my old Bio textbooks were much more helpful than the Kaplan book.
Just my opinion...wait to see what others have to say about it...

I have a lot of books to use as reference. I kept all my science and math related books since I have been in college. I even bought some out of date ones when they were trying to get rid of them for a quarter.

My problem is that I tend to over-analyze what they might put on the exam in particular parts so I end up basically trying to study absolutely everything in the chapter. That would be great if I was an efficient studier, but unfortunately I am not. I need a great DAT to try to help offset my gpa and lack of extracurriculars.

I suggest do not take Kaplan classes, just use the online courses.
If you are attending the classes, it is better to take the DAT at most a month later.

I didn't find Kaplan very helpful either, the person teaching it just got admitted to D school herself. Didn't seem like she knew anything at all, and she got a bit anal when we asked questions. I guess each person has a different experience depending on the teacher. I guess the "right" time to take it is when you feel ready (if that is a possibility hahah yeah right!). Dont wait too long.

It's interesting that you guys say not to take the class. The only reason that I would be more inclined to take the class versus online is that I am a notoriously bad procrastinator. Maybe when I move into my new place and get away from all the distractions I'll have a better shot a the online course.

The course won't really help with your procrastination. You have to find a place where your tendencies won't come out as easily and just force yourself to learn.
