Hey everyone!
I am a little confused as to whether i should take the Kaplan course for OATs or just study on my own...😕
I have asked couple of people and they recommend me getting all the material on my own and just study rather than wasting time and money behind Kaplan.
What would you guys recommend? For those who have taken Kaplan, did you find it useful? Thank you so much!! 🙂

I did not find the class particularly helpful, but I did find much of the online material good. I would suggest taking the online form of the class. This way you get all of the material (both online and print) and you get to save some money.

I agree with this, however, for $100 more you can get the live online classroom that comes with all of the online Kaplan materials. This is the method I used to prepare for the OAT exam. The live online is something you may want to research because I found it very useful, and for a great price. With the live online also, you will be sent an auditory headset, hundreds of flashcards, laminated quicksheets for all of the relevant OAT topics, a 300 page "lesson" book, and a 1200 page "review notes" book.

I also agree but the kaplan course simplifies things way too much. I think you should find something a littlemore challenging to help you prepare for the OAT. Don't get me wrong I think it's and excelllent course but I used OAT achiever and it really helped me. I've been out of school for two years and I decided to apply and I got got no lower than a 320 on any section. I applied to six school and I got accepted to 4 of them. If you have any questions I would more than happy to help.

I don't agree with this.

Kaplan is so great because it focuses on exactly what will be on the exam and what to pay most closely attention to. The Kaplan "Review Notes" book (1200 + pages) doesn't simplify at all, really. It IS true the lesson book simplifies, but it still comes down to focusing on the necessary elements of the OAT exam. In other words, if you purchase the live online Kaplan course including all of the online resources, you won't have to worry about the material being so simplified to the point where you have to go through science textbooks to further uncover what is being explained. Kaplan will provide all of the essential material for you. You get what you pay for.

Also, if I am accepted into PCO this upcoming Monday, I will be selling all of my OAT materials from Kaplan. I may have to retake because of my RC section, though. I found the Kaplan strategy behind the RC section much less effective as opposed to the other sections.

My friend sold me the Kaplan material (giant book, workbook, flash cards, .pdf tests) and I studed for my own at a fraction of the cost. I locked myself in my room (or the library) for about a month and did just fine. If you have the discipline to study on your own you can definitely do it!! The Kaplan materials were pretty decent and using old textbooks/notes can help you, as well as the plentiful information you can find online nowadays 🙂 Good luck!!

Yeah, the Kaplan RC strategy isn't all that great, as it isn't a very efficient use of time. I followed something somewhat similar to the Kaplan strategy, and even though I still got a 350 RC, I did much worse in that than on any other subject.

Thank you all...🙂

I will definitely look into the live online classroom thing!
