Has anyone tried solving problems from this book?

They are f***ing tough. Are they indicative of the real deal? Coz if they are, then I'm scr**ed

I thought the real MCAT was a lot easier (but I only took 1 real MCAT so I'm not sure whether my test is indicative of the tests as a whole); however, I consistently scored higher on Kaplan tests (scaled score) than my score on the real test by about 2-3 points. Good luck.

I tried do do a few of those problems but couldn't. I just didn't bother again and ended up doing pretty well on the real thing. I really liked the bio section of Kaplan MCAT comprehensive review (red cover). It's concise and straight to the point.

Just to clarify -

I'm not talking about Kaplans Comprehensive Review (the big book)....... I'm referring to the slimmer "MCAT 45" book by Kaplan - the one thats supposed to contain the bone crunching questions

MCAT 45 was pretty tough for me too. So I didn't use it....but did use the comprehensive review, and liked it.

huge waste of time. get examkrackers or something else which is going to better represent the MCAT. good luck studying. oh yeah, its a little early to be preparing isnt it?

Thanks for the advice

Don't know if its too early - dude - but then again, I'm not exactly "studying", unless you count picking up an MCAT 45 book while sipping Toffee Nut Frapuccino at the local Barnes 😀

ok cool, i was thinking that hardcore studying this far away will only leave you burnt out and you will forget what you learned before april.

I liked the Kaplan comprehensive review book better. There's also a Kaplan MCAT workbook that's easier than the MCAT 45. Basically, the only representative tests you're going to get are the AAMC practice tests. Definitely invest in those!

MCAT 45 is exactly what it claims to be. It is the hardest questions the MCAT has. You will see a hand full of questions on the actual MCAT that are of the same level as MCAT 45. If you are just beginning studying, this is not the place to start. Start with Kaplan Comprehensive Review, it is a big help. Then if you are feeling confident move on to Kaplan 45. If you are confident that you will score well and want to see yourself really excel (maybe move you from a 37 to a 38 or a 39 to a 40) then MCAT 45 is for you. If you are just trying to get a good enough score to get into any medical school, stay away from this book.

I worked through the MCAT 45 book, it was hard as hell and I did not get the 45 that I expected to get when I paid for the book.

Haha yeah. I wish I could get a 45 on an MCAT by shelling out 20 bucks for a book.

Do you guys know anyone who did? Get a 45, that is.

What a feather in the cap that would be. I'd never live that one down

I just had a odd question -- if a person did have a 45 on the MCAT... would he/she be able to literally choose whatever school? Is this even possible? Argh. Frustration!

i'll second that- this was the only book i used (and used only AFTER going through all my books from classes). As for seeing a handful of questions that hard- well, not really. maybe one that difficult for the entire MCAT test, but hey better to be ready for the worst, right?
I guess the point is this: no book will get you a 45. to get a 45 you need to be in the 37-45 range knowledge-wise and get really lucky on test day. This book is good (and i'd reccomend it to everyone) for teaching you NOT to freak when you get hit with a nasty passage and for teaching you how to think when background knowledge can't help you out. I know that in my free mcat test prep program, i will encourage all of my students to get and work through this book- you just need to be very clear that this is not what the MCAT will consist of, and that after suffering through this book, the real test will be that much easier.
