purchase it from kaplan at various costs/time.

you dont need to enroll in a course to get it.

how much is it? and how does appleton &lange compare to kaplan's qbank? is it better or worse?

they got the prices online if you search for it.

see the different options they got and all.

I haven't touched or ever opened up the A & L book(s?)

can't help with that.

people refer to the qbank as the standard for step 1 questions though.

Does anyone who took the USMLE Step I already...have advice on when to buy Q-bank?

If you buy before Dec 30th...you can get 9mnths for $399

If you buy 3mnths before I think it's around $250...maybe a little more.

Would you recommend buying it now? Or should I just wait til 3mnths before?

I got suckered into buying Q-Bank for 6 months; when I bought it, I planned on using Q-Bank questions to help me regular Med 2 exams and then the last month, kick it into high gear for the boards..

Didn't work out that way-- I started using it full-time when I was studying, which was approximately 6 weeks.. And the first two weeks were more about going through First Aid and BRS's.. If I had to do it again, I would save the money and get it just for 1 month.

The other complicating factor is to evaluate which subscriptions give you Q-Book; I actually liked Q-Book a lot, and I don't think you get that with a 1 month subscription.

Good luck..

I'm just starting my studying now, but I opted for QReview, because it comes with Qbank, a full-length simulated exam (online), and the IV Qbank (integrated vignettes). It was a bit pricey though, at $399, which is a DISCOUNTED price! Ack! It's 9 months of access too, which is overkill for me since I'm taking step 1 in January! But I found the IV qbank to be helpful and I wanted the full length exam, so I opted to just get this package.

About the Qbook thing...the way they presented it to us was that you only get the Qbook if you signed up during one of the Kaplan presentation sessions where they have special discount rates and deals. I didn't think Qbook was a part of any packages. Maybe things have just changed this cycle, or I might have just missed it somehow.

when we met, qbook wasn't apart of the package unless we signed up for a course that provided lecture notes.

since this was before the new qbook? was about to come out.

we were told we'd get that qbook as well.

plus we were offered physio qbank if we signed up then as well.

Ive since withdrawn from that early sign up, so I dont know how physio qbank is. I'm doing qreview right now for 6 months only. Where is this 9 month thing? not that I need 9 months of access ...

Maybe it's a special group deal for my class...it's on a sheet the Kaplan rep handed out to us at their presentation. I'd rather have 6 months and pay less, but that wasn't an option 🙁

I paid the same amount for less time.
(and I had to argue for that price). It was that or I get 50 (or 100?) of my classmates to sign up for a group discount.

Yeah, that's the deal we did at Duke...it was supposed to be 50 students, but I doubt that 50 actually signed up in the end. In any case, we got the discount. I just think it's absurd how much they charge for this stuff. I actually have a flyer from 2002, when I went to one of these meetings (for the free food of course 😉 ) and the Qreview package was only $329! That's a bit more reasonable, but still nuts!

I think their trick is that instead of lowering their price they make more money by instead just offering a longer time period, and throwing in little perks to sweeten the deal. I wish they'd just drop the price, but I doubt we'll ever see that. Why can't I pay $200 to get Qreview for just 2 months if I want???
