Kappa Psi

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yea, my school is actually starting a kappi psi chapter but the initation fee is $125 plus the same amount for the annual membership. thats a bit more than organizations such as Apha, ASHP, or the ncpa. But a 'social' pharmacy club sounds enticing w/ all the classwork and tests we have to take.

Gamma Rho here.

I joined because I wasn't from here and I wanted to meet the other young (but not 19 young! like 22 young) and like-minded classmates and people above us. It has been a great experience - not only do I always have someone to go out with but we have a test bank. If you look at our chapter we've been incredibly successful in academics, obtaining great residencies and leadership (the APhA-ASP Speaker of the House 2005-2006 and now 2007-2008 were/are both Gamma Rho brothers), the top-ranked student from both this year's graduation class and last year's were both brothers as well.

so no, we don't just drink but it is nice to have a group of friends who understand what you're going through and know how to have a good time afterwards.

I went to our Province meeting in SF in March - it was really cool to meet brothers from all over. I know that in the past during our 4th year rotations some brothers have stayed with brothers in other cities - so it's great for networking as well.

i'm not kappa psi;i pledged and joined kappa epsilon.

i would wholeheartedly endorse joining ANY greek organization. the social aspect is great, and, like the previous post stated, most frats have a test bank, which is completely invaluable👍 😀

Im KY.

It was probabley the best decision I made in pharmacy school. All the chapters seem to be different. Some are good at academics and others are real good at throwing awesome parties. Check out all the greek organizations at your school to see what which one would be the best fit for you.

njac: Are you heading to boston for the GCC?

I'm headed to GCC in Boston, I just booked by ticket today!! It's going to rock, hopefully this time Province V will have a good turn out!! 12 people from Beta Upsilon alone are headed out there. My advice is to just get to know the brothers at Western, go to their events and then decide from there if Kappa Psi is something that you want to be a part of-as you can see from this board, KY is EVERYWHERE!

I most likely will not go to GCC - it's a money issue (that hotel is expensive!!!) and I'm going to be on rotation then.

but several of our first years are super excited about going.

ummm....hate to break it to you but there's no chapter at Western...I think they are investigating a start up there...they would be the first Epsilon Chapter for Kappa Psi...pretty cool!

Yay - another KE. No matter what you join, it's good to join any Greek organization. They're a lot different from the typical undergrad organizations. It's great....do it.

gator - what chapter are you?

alpha upsilon here😀

there's 2 guys in my KE chapter so it's not just a girlie thing.

hey! my chapter is almost ALL men!

our KY chapter is about 50:50 for men and women.

it's not the same everywhere - there is one school in CA that can only take men because they have a house or something, but overall it seemed to be a pretty good mix

Im sure that chapter you speak of is more like tradition that they take men rather than a housing issue....folks up at UCSF have a house and it's coed 😉 Each chapter has their own personality...some chapters are 80-90% women

I know but each school has different rules on houses - I've was at the UCSF house during Province. Some schools Greek Organization doesn't let you have co-ed houses on campus or some jazz like that.

I wonder how much evolution occurs within chapters. at some schools they're nerdy, at some they party lots... has anyone here been involved with starting up a grad chapter?

it has been finialized and Western U is starting a Kappa Psi chaper!!! 😛

Beta Rho representing!!!! 😀

Joining Kappa Psi is great decision. Not only do you get a chance to socialize with each brother (ladies included), but you get a chance to socialize with alot of the faculty and administration.

Only drawback: some chapters are not Co-ed 🙁 (mine wasn't) but still loved the times. 😍

It's basically a club that involves massive amounts of beer ingestion. A lot of people join.

you say this like it's a bad thing?

(extensive) test banks + $2pints on Wednesdays = totally worth $45/year👍

Representing Delta Iota of Kappa Psi,
Its a really great experience, cool people to hang out with, and the older brothers are always willing to give realistic advice about upcoming years. Its a lot of fun but I did a lot of growing up as far as getting things done on time after joining. I think you will enjoy it.

If you join a frat, I would seriously look into the people in the frat and what they represent. Fraternity chapters from school to school can differ greatly. I would not do it just to put another line on your resume if you can't stand the people in the frat.
A friend once told me, "I do not need to join a frat and pay 120 dollars a year just to drink beer when I can do it for free."

A friend once told me, "I do not need to join a frat and pay 120 dollars a year just to drink beer when I can do it for free."

Typical thought of a non-member.

It is so much more than just paying to drink with people.

Everything else prior to that statement I completely agree with.

Chi Chapter!!!
It's a great way to meet people, especially if you have a big class or you're from out-of-state!
