Ferali's notes mentions, in parentheses, that karyotyping is done during metaphase I, which is the answer I've memorized until today, my first day of Genetics. During class, my professor said that karyotypes are performed during metaphase of mitosis via chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis. His reasoning was that you want to see the full set of chromosomes in the embryo, which is undergoing mitosis, thus metaphase and NOT metaphase I.
He spent a good 20 minutes describing it and tbh, it sounds pretty logical to me. Is Ferali's notes wrong? Is there another reason why karyotyping would be preferably performed during metaphase I?
Most importantly, what's the accepted answer for the DAT?
