Hey DO students- I am starting class at KCOM this fall and my computer crashed this last week and it is going to the dumpster tonight. So, I need to decide if I want a laptop or desktop computer. Any KCOM students have suggestions? Do teachers prefer you that you have a laptop? Would it be necessary? Experiences? Thanks for your suggestions...

If you have info or advice please reply to this thread or email me at [email protected]

a laptop is nice for PBL-type experiences in Path and Pharm but i never used it in normal lectures. i'd get a laptop just for convenience....

agreed. I bet I could fix your laptop.

rarely will you need a laptop. That said, there is wireless internet and ethernet plugs available all around campus- so if you get a laptop and dont buy an ISP you might save some money over the long run. Occasionally it is nice to have one during classes to look up something. In general though, a laptop is certainly not required. Dont go and get one if you already have a computer.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe that I agree with docslytherin for once. 😉

You don't NEED a laptop, just as you don't NEED mechanical pencils or highlighters. If you WANT a laptop, get one- it's just a snazzier tool.

I got a laptop halfway through last year. I love it, but I don't use it in class much.

Oh, come on! I would die without my lucky twist erase pencil! And highlighters, well, reincarnation would be impossible. Green means stimulates. Red inhibits. It sure made renal much easier to conceptualize. I'll have to show you my "Big Picture" sheet that Sexton gave us that literally will get you an 85% on his test if you just study it. Purddy cool.
