Hi SNDers,

I had my KCOM interview last week, everything went well, but because of my schedule, I had to cut my interview short and subsequently missed the tour of the campus. Can someone that goes to KCOM or other interviewees tell me more about KCOM in general? All I saw was the admissions office, the bookstore, and the general dining area. Is there a gym? tennis/basketball courts/cafeteria? Layout of the anatomy lab? How are the lecture halls/classrooms/clinics? Any information would greatly help out a fellow interviewee!

Tankdriver-
Go checkout their virtual tour online http://www.kcom.edu. They've got some pretty decent pics and info along with it....or you can wait till I get back from my interview there in a couple of weeks and I'll fill you in.

Tankdriver, the campus is nice, however it's in a small town. Some people have issues with that, others do not. The gym/anatomy lab/other parts of the campus are nice. It is a great school and I was impressed while interviewing there. I asked many students the same questions and probed them to death, so I could make sure this was the school for me.

I am sure some KCOM students will see this post and PM you or reply to this post....IMHO, I thought this school had their stuff together...I will be attending, but that was how I felt...If you have other interviews and are at a school that you feel more comfortable with, go with that one....Hope this helps....😀

I'm a KCOM student, so I'll give your questions a shot.

There is a gym- it seems to work well for students- free weights, nautilus, cardio machines, 2 raquetball courts, a rock climbing wall, hot tub, sauna, and a full sized gym. There are classes of all sorts almost everyday (yoga, martial arts, aerobics, etc...), and we have very active intramurals. There is no swimming pool, but there is an aquatic center and a local university with a pool. There are definitely basketball courts, (indoor and outdoor), but no tennis courts. I am sure there are some in town.

There are two anatomy labs. The majority of students are in the larger one, the rest in the smaller. There are four students per cadaver. The lab seems to be a little outdated, but it certainly suffices. There are no bells and whistles that I know of.

The lecture halls are nice, and you can plug your computer into the network from any seat. We have smaller breakout rooms with smart boards and OMM tables for small group study. The lecture rooms are open most of the time and some students study there. We have a common area that is open 24 hours.

If you have specific questions about any of these things I would be happy to answer them. I've said this several times, but please don't be put off by the size of Kirksville. I was initially very worried about this, and it just doesn't matter.

Do all KCOM students participate in the Still Well program? or just a handful of students?

Is the Still Well program like what the website says?

Are the aforementioned activities and facilities available for your spouse or significant other as well?

Does the still well program incorporate activities for significant others as well? (Because we all know that healthy relationships lead to happy med school students!)😍

KCOM really takes the body, mind, spirit idea to a whole new level. They are very concerned with your mental and emotional well being. The med school is tough so they hope to help you make other areas of your life outside of school very enjoyable. They include spouses in everything, as a side note my wife now works for the admissions department so KCOM is now a large and enjoyable part of our lives

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! My impression of KCOM just keeps getting better and better!
