Hi all, I am currently accepted into KCU-Joplin and UNE. I am having a hard time deciding between the two and would like some thoughts as they are both great DO schools. Also if any current students can talk pros/cons of these schools, that would be much appreciated!
Some context:
-I am on 2 MD school waitlists and 1 MD school delayed decision.
-I am interested in Internal Med but would like to keep an open mind.
-Currently residing in the midwest.
KCUCOM
Pros:
-Cheaper tuition by about $10k each yr and 10k scholarship, so total about 50k cheaper
-One of the original DO school
-Supposably 100% match rate last year
-High board pass rates
-Have 2 hospitals in Joplin where KCU students get priority
-Have residency programs
-Starts in late July
Cons:
-Joplin, not much to do
-New satellite campus but it seems everything is the same
-Mostly lecture-based curriculum
UNECOM
Pros:
-Biddeford and New campus in Portland during the second year
-High board pass rates
-Match well
-PBL/team-based curriculum
-More research opportunities than KCU
-Will know a peer that is going there as well
-Encourage students to take USMLE
Cons:
-More expensive
-Have to find your own rotations?
-Farther from home
-Starts in early July
Thanks!
