I have a interview with them on the 28th of this month so I was wondering if I could get some opinions about what the school is like. Small town? solid education? teaching hospitals closeby?

The school is very nice, and the education that you will receive there is excellent. However, the fact that it is in a rougher part of town makes it less attractive to some applicants. Kansas City has a lot to do when you have free time; take advantage of opportunities to have fun and stay sane. 3rd year rotations can be done almost anywhere in the country; I'm in Wichita, KS but have friends who went to Florida, Pennsylvania, etc. You also have the option of staying in KC (which is mandatory if you're doing the duel MBA/DO program). Although you do get experience w/histories and physical exams on standardized patients, I was a little disappointed that we didn't have more time in clinics/hospitals scheduled into our curriculum. My class spent a 1/2 day in a clinic and that was it. It is possible that this has changed, and there are ample opportunities to get more patient encounters in your free time. Overall, I am very pleased w/the education (you will know your pathology!) I received in my first two years. 😀

I'm sure other KCUMBers can add more to this. You should also check out the interview feedback on SDN for previous applicants thoughts on the school. Good luck!

nrddct-

I am an MI at KCUMB at the moment and I love it. I've only had 3 weeks of class but the people (admin. and students) are great. Every MI is given a big sister or brother to help in the transition process. The profs are very proud of the education we are given here and other students (even from mayo) have heard of KCUMB's good reputation. I just know I like how the curriculum is set up, it's system's based, and the attitude of the students. My class really helps each other out. I get emails all the time of charts/lists/notes that others have created to aid other's studying. The school is located in "the ghetto" but those that live in CT love it and others live all over, like near the plaza and even up north.

I hope this helps a little bit. Good luck in your interview and let me know if you have any other questions...be sure you pick the brains of your tour guides before your interview, they are always great about sharing.
