Did you receive any additional information after sending back your confirmation? I am wondering when my interview time is, I have to catch a return flight at 6:40 and I think it might be close.

I'm getting in pretty early Sunday too...give me a shout if you're staying at the Westport Holiday Inn and want to meet up...that goes for anybody interviewing at KC this Monday...it would be cool to get a dinner crew together!

I don't know what it is this year, but last year we met up at the Butterworth Alumni Center. If nobody here can offer the information and you can't find your invitation letter, then just call and ask; the staff at KCUMB is very friendly.

Traditionally, interviewing students meet at the Butterworth Alumni Center. However, starting with the 24th there will be a "coffee talk" at 7:30 a.m. for informal questions and "getting to know each other and staff" before the interview day officially kicks off. I assume this will also be in the BAC, but I do not know for certain.

As for finishing time, interviews are typically done by ~ 3 p.m. I don't recall having any specific problems with students not making flights. The airport is less than 30min from the school, so even leaving the school at ~4 p.m. should give you plenty of time.

Hey guys how are the interviews at KCUMB?? I got my invite for the Oct. 22nd interviews in the mail today. I was nervous before, now just building.. 🙂 If anyone doesn't mind sharing I'd love to hear how they liked the format, etc.....

As for Biochem I'd try and take it before hand. It seems to be a big part of the your first year so you should come in a little ahead of the game. Biochem and Human dissection are they only classes I'm taking this semester that I'm truly trying to retain everything that I can...

KCUMB interviews are a pretty informative and generally laid back day. You start with coffee (if you want to do that), and then a general introduction and overview of the school's background, curriculum, highlights, rotation policies, etc. After that you get to ask student ambassadors (all 2nd year students for the next month or so) anything you want... there will be six or more of them to ask questions of (living, stuff to do in city, opinions about the school/grading/faculty etc.). That's followed by a quick but thorough tour of all the main facilities on campus, and lunch with ambassadors (and of course, you can continue questions through the tour and lunch).

After lunch you will find out who is interviewing you and what the interview time is. Ambassadors will tell you as much as they can about the personality, hobbies, academic interests, and style of the persons conducting your interview.

As for the interview itself, that is generally very laid back but is of course dependent on just who is sitting across the table. KCUMB's general process (and of course I am not speaking for the school, just my own opinion and observation) is that they have already decided through MCAT, grades, EC, and LoR that you are academically and motivationally qualified to be one of their students. The interview day is their chance to talk to you in person, in a very conversational way, and catch glaring personality issues that might make them think you would not work well with other students or faculty, or are not psychologically ready for the burden and stress of med school.

So don't be surprised if you spend most of your interview talking about interests in college outside of volunteering and academics, or what your family is like, or how you relieve stress. You might have questions about why you want to be a physician, is there any particular draw to the osteopathic profession to you, etc. You might even have someone ask a tough medical ethics question just to gage how you respond under the gun and what your critical thinking and communication skills are like. Most applicants come out of the interview thinking "man, that was really laid back, I can't believe I got worked up for that." Sometimes an applicant even makes a comment like "I don't think they will accept me... they didn't even ask why I wanted to go to this school, much less be a doctor... we just talked about football the whole time."

Wherever you park, make sure it doesn't say "PRESIDENT" in big letters in the space (yes, there was a girl who actually parked there when running late one interview morning... thankfully we were able to convince her it wasn't such a good idea before any permanent harm was done). 🙂

There is a large student parking lot monitored by security on the corner of woodland and independence (on the south side of independence) - it is more or less across the road from the main admin building, with Butterworth just behind and to the right of the admin building.

There is also a parking lot just across woodland on the north side of independence that is right across from Butterworth - that is a faculty lot I believe, and honestly I don't know what the policy is for interviewing applicants parking there. I'd discourage parking anywhere in the central part of campus, as that is all faculty and parking is limited there and they fight for those spots... meaning you might make someone 'unhappy.'

She was late, and obviously a little frazzled. I think she had that "I'm not a student, so they can't get mad at me..." mindset without slowing down enough to really think about what she had just done.

She thanked us later in the day.

I have never been so impressed by a school before after having such a neutral impression walking in. I sure hope i get an acceptance next week, if i dont ill be very hurt lol. This school will be tough to beat and was better than the MD schools id visited so far.

I second everything else said about KCUMB. It is definitely my top choice. What are the stats of those of you who have been interviewed? They finally got my second mcat score (27) on my record this week so I'm hoping to hear something soon.

they hadnt even gotten my damn second mcat score when i asked the interviewrs yesterday, i just told em what it was, and called aacomas today all pissed off and of course its impossible to reach anyone there ever.

Just wanted to give a quick bump to update my previous advice. There is a parking lot inside the main campus area, in the area between the admin building and Butterworth Alumni Center, that does have visitor spots marked. These are safe to park in and are very convenient for interviewing students.

From independence turn North (left if coming from the interstate or the paseo) onto woodland, and take a left into the parking lot.

Yup, I pretty much agree with you there. KCUMB will be hard to beat. I was quite impressed by the school, its state of the art technology, the availability of the faculty(not only to students but to prospective students as well) , the animal friendly neighborhood , and the non-formaldehyde smelling anatomy lab

Did anyone else have a problem finding a hotel? My interview is Thursday and I have yet to find an open hotel, or a car to rent, I think there is a Garth Brook concert.... which in another situation would be funny, but I'm in quite a pickle. Anyone have any Ideas?
