My understanding is Joplin and KC are treated the same and not completely different schools like LECOMs. But I would ask someone in the school-specific thread

Maybe, maybe not. Same institution, different students with different characteristics and interests. There is a large element of personal preference and preparation within a match list. I would still go for the scholarship.

As a member of Joplin’s first graduating class who received interviews from all of the top programs in my home city in the Midwest I can assure you Joplin is the way to go. The curriculum is the same at KC and Joplin and KCU has a solid reputation everywhere I interviewed. I am confident I will match at my top choice. Match Day is March 19th btw.

Wow congrats!! 🙂 This is super reassuring. So you haven't felt an emphasis on primary care? BTW I have nothing against primary care and I understand so much of how a student matches is due to their own credentials! But I don't know what I want to specialize in so having an institution w a history of competitive specialty matches leaves the door open to non primary care.

The KCUCOM scholarship is for sure applied the first yr but I have to get an 80% avg in all courses (and class averages are 85%) to get it extended for each additional yr. So the guranteed dif in COA is 45k (PCOM costs 5k more each yr too). I dont know how easy it is to get slightly below average at KCUCOM but is the 45k by itself enough of a dif to choose KCUCOM?

If you only want primary care then save the 45k. But if you want something somewhat competitive go pcom. It will keep more doors open
