I was just wondering if anyone can comment on the current core rotation sites at KCUMB. I know that staying in Kansas City will lead to KU, Children's and various other university and community hospitals but I really know nothing about their other sites. Does anyone have any experience with any of the other sites or know about them in general? I have read comments saying they are pretty good, but why? Are any preferred if one wants to enter a specialty? I am not sure if they are all listed online but I could type them out when I get to a computer.

What makes the KC rotations hit and miss are all the non-hospital based rotations. There are a lot of private practice or at least non-school affiliated (KU or St. Luke's/Truman for UMKC) docs that you will rotate with. Sometimes this means doing more than at an educational hospital, sometimes it means sitting in a room reading all day with no education from the doc you are with. The other core sites are also hit and miss though probably more hit from what I have heard from others. Doctors in Ohio is very good (Im there on a 4th year ortho rotation now), Wichita, KS I have heard great things about. Some of the smaller ones like Farmington, MO there isn't much pathology but for surgery for instance you are first assist on all cases. Haven't heard much about Fort Myers, FL but it is FL. Orlando is a great rotation core site....so there are many more but it seems in general students have gotten more out of a core site that is not KC. I stayed in KC since I am from here and have a house here, for others its easier to go out of town. PM me if you have any other questions.
