So what's the general reputation of this school? how hard is it to get an interview here? Pros/cons?

good, i think. it's been around for nearly 100 years and has a solid reputation in the midwest and in the osteopathic community in general. they seem to produce tons of specialists -- if you do a search for osteopathic physicians, you'll find that lots of the specialists went to kcumb. they used to be called uhs and just changed their name last year, so you can search sdn for both names for info.

i don't know how hard or easy it is to get an interview, but they do admit the vast majority of the students they interview. they're very upfront about that at the interview. the downsides would be that the school's in the ghetto and that lots of students have to leave for clinical rotations. also, some students don't seem to like the administration. upsides are good reputation, friendly atmosphere, nice campus and really cool systems based curriculum. they're also trying to do more research.

KCUMB's been good to me. 👍 Although a lot of what you do 3rd/4th year as far as paving the way to residency I did on my own i.e. without a 'mentor' from the school with persistant contact. It might be this way other places too, though. I'd like to see that change.

the rep here is pretty good, but i think in the next 5+ yrs it will one of the very TOP schools. the research building just got completed, a new building for these advanced medical training dummies is about to get underway, and a few yrs later a huge auditorium.

a statistical plus to me (im into the number crunching and finding patterns) is that while kcumb is not the BIGGEST(250) class, nor scoring the HIGHEST passage rate on the comlex(about 95-97%), they are still a huge class compared to the top scoring schools, most of which have class sizes in the 100's or less. i think oucom had 100% passage, but a class size of like 60. so to me, statistically, if you goto kcumb, you have the best chance of passing and going on, plus, since the class IS bigger and more ppl get out, the networking is a little better, and yea, we do tend to send out a lot of specialists.

i guess if you wanted to know more, ask some PDs what they think??

I accepted my seat at KCUMB. It also has a top notch pathology department. The area it is located is not in the best part of town, but from I experience and where I live, I don't know that I'd classify it as "ghetto."

yea it does that! compare it to almost any school - DO, MD whatever, the path here is awesome, and students consistently out score their peers in path material be they DO or MD...

its all headed by a nationally famous doc - "The Pathology Guy" Ed Friedlander MD.
