I've been done with my ochem book for about a year now and was wondering what value I had in keeping it. Would it be useful for MCAT study, or is all you need given to you in EK and whatever Princeton review gives? Also, would it be helpful for a Biochem class? Or is that unnecessary as well?

I haven't looked back since Organic II through biochem and the MCAT

I never sell back books...I just hate thinking of the poor return in investment sell backs are. Plus, I like to keep them as reference, just in case.

But with that said, I did not touch my Ochem book or notes for the MCAT. Hell, I didn't even take Ochem2 when I took the MCAT or Biochem and got a 12 in BS. Everything you need to know should be in the prep books. Ochem is such a small portion on the MCAT its hardly worth studying at all (this was my approach...I just made sure I knew the bio down pat and I could afford to miss the ochem questions)

Sounds good.

Yeah, selling books back sucks, they're only gonna give me about 60 bucks for a 180 dollar book. I was gonna sell on facebook, since my book is in pretty good condition. If it really isnt necessary for the mcat or biochem, then I'll probably do just that.

Any o chem textbook is serious overkill for the MCAT. Just use the prep books. EK worked great for me.

As far as keeping for reference... well if you really wake up in a sweat at night needing to know the mechanism for a Wolf-Kishner reduction then by all means keep it. If someday you think you might need to look up some o chem principle, use google!

The only textbooks I wish I had kept were some humanities ones so I could actually sit down again and maybe enjoy learning something about art or history that I had just crammed into my head for a midterm during the class.

Def def not necessary for the MCAT. OChem on the MCAT is really basic, and the prep books will have you covered. I sold mine back and haven't regretted it for a second, except the poor return of the cash. 🙁

Thanks for the input. And I do plan on getting EK for the MCAT as well.

Haha, this is why I'm gonna try to sell my book on facebook so I can try to get 75% of my money back as opposed to teh bookstore buying back for 50%.

I didn't even use my o-chem book for o-chem. Actually, that book was a worthless piece of ****.

MCAT o-chem is a joke.

Sold all my chem books: gen chem, orgo, biochem....

Don't regret it at all. I teach MCAT orgo, and I in no way, shape, or form need my old textbooks.

And nothing in your orgo book will be useful for biochem. All those texts have intros with the basic information, anyways.

Get as much cash for them as you can and then don't worry about it. You'll need the cash for MCAT books down the line. 😎
