Hi fellow re-appers! So I'm in the midst of my second fruitless cycle, and to be honest, it's a total bummer. While my friends are all getting into medical school, already in medical school, or recently graduated from medical school, I'm sitting around waiting endlessly just for a II, not to mention an acceptance. So it's often a challenge to stay positive. I'm guessing this feeling isn't isolated to myself.

Anyways, it might be nice to have a thread for some encouragement and/or shameless venting followed by encouragement to keep the faith alive that we too will...one day... god/ jesus /allah /buddah /flying spaghetti monster/ willing... knock on wood... fingers crossed... toes crossed... rub a bald head for good luck... actually get into medical school and be amazing physicians. 👍

I'm also curious to see what you all do to stay positive throughout this endless process....

Keep the faith!

if you don't get in anywhere you should reapply super early and you will be golden.

I'm a re-applicant, and possible re-re-applicant, so I definitely feel your pain. My first cycle lead to 0 interviews (low mcat, late app, applied to all the wrong schools). This cycle, I've had one interview and I'm waiting to hear back but it's likely I've been waitlisted. I graduated in 2010, so a lot of my friends are already in med school. It sucks.
It's definitely my mcat score that's holding me back, but I retook and received the exact same score despite studying like a maniac for months. I might have to start studying for another retake...That seriously nauseates me lol.
BUT I'm hanging in there! I know I'll eventually get accepted somewhere as long as I continue to work hard and improve my chances. I think the most frustrating thing about all of this is having to deal with other people who don't understand the process. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "you should just become a PA" I could probably payoff all my application debt 🙂
So yeah, you're not alone!! Do you have an idea as to why you haven't received an acceptance yet?

i'm in the situation as you both. waiting to hear back from schools. am a 2nd time applicant. if i don't get in this time, i'm applying one more time and that's it. 3 strikes you're out. almost all my close friends are in med school and are doing well. sucks to be left out. what are your guys stats and where did u apply? mine aren't too good, but drastically better than last year.

Misery loves company 😛 I agree that the third time will likely be my last. I can take a hint.... I'll probably join the Peace Corps or go into working with a non-profit or an NGO. Farewell science career 🙁

In the mean time, if you need a little inspiration, here's Kid President to give you a much needed dose of hope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-gQLqv9f4o

hey kids ill join this club
no interviews yet...next time is number 3 for me too...im thinking about taking a year to up my app and pondering a mcat retake, sitting with a 30 right now....GPA is 3.79
but then that makes me potentially starting med school at the age of 27 😱
which freaks me out!

Welcome to da club!
If I have to reapply then id be starting at 26, so that's definitely something I think about. I've met so many docs who started while in their late twenties (some even recommend it!) so it doesn't seem like such a big deal.

Oh, and stats! I have a 3.9 sgpa and cgpa, 27 mcat (9-9-9) and a lot of research experience. Applied MD only. I don't know much about DO but I'm going to shadow a few and see what it's all about in case I need to reapply.
My fingers are crossed for everyone!!

They are idiots then. When they went to med school it was different times. DO's focused mainly in family medicine, there were a lot fewer schools/residency spots/rotation sites, etc. If you want to practice medicine, help people, do whatever specialty you want, make money, have prestige, pickup women/guys by saying you are a doctor, prescribe yourself medication..whatever your priority is, apply to both MD and DO. Especially after 3 cycles!

This is my 3rd cycle now and it has been a looong and painful process.

Ill be reapplying next year. Withdrew my application due to divorce. Keep your heads up guys!

I'm sorry to hear that! I hope you can find the strength and determination to be a strong reapplicant in the coming cycle.

I just got a rejection from my last hope school, so I'll be there with you.

looks like ill be joining you-- however..may wait a year since i have nothing new for my application :/

you have a few months to change that

My first application cycle (last year): ZERO interviews. 30 MCAT, 3.3+ sGPA, 3.6+ cGPA.
(Only applied to one DO school that cycle an it was really late in the cycle)

This cycle: 3 MD interviews, 4 DO interviews which resulted in 3 DO acceptances and 1 MD acceptance at my top choice. 30 MCAT, 3.50+ sGPA, 3.7+ cGPA.

My advice? Stick with it and APPLY EARLY! I knew what my weaknesses were and fixed them. Getting zero interviews last year was a giant kick to the stomach. BUT, it was also a giant wake up call that I needed to kick some major butt my senior year in undergrad. If you know you want to be a physician, work hard and the rest will follow.
