I'm a 4th year med student attending the American University of the Caribbean.I missed the 2000 match because I started school Jan.1997.I will finish all required electives/selectives in Sept and receive an ECFMG certificate soon after.Should I keep busy(eg.externship or observational) and have some type of patient contact between Sept. and match time 2001? Would it hurt my chances obtaining a residency(in internal medicine)if I spent my time doing something non-medical?
