What sort of basic science texts are worth keeping as reference for the clinical years? I was planning to keep all my BRS books as quick references, but as I look at how much space they take up, I'm wondering if it's really worth it.

I'll probably keep pathoma as a reference if I forgot the pathophysiology of something. Other than that I doubt I use anything else I've used.... Can't wait to burn first aid.

When you get to IM, you might reconsider keeping FA.

At least our attendings PIMP us w/ crap we vaguely remember from FA. 🙄

I've got a Robbins and Goljan sitting on my shelf. Haven't opened them once since I started residency, which was three years ago.

If you're going into any procedural/surgical specialty, keep your Netter for sure. You will definitely use it as an M3, and I used it quite a bit last month when I rotated through a new subspecialty.

There's likely nothing you have to keep. You're going to have access to online resources through your library through the rest of your training, and by the time you're no longer in an academic setting, all texts are going to be updated/obsolete.

I've kept a handful of books all the way through to fellowship. Surprisingly last month I found myself pulling out a physiology text (Boron) as I prepared a case conference and found myself looking for explanations of slow inactivation of sodium channels on neurons...but the number of times I've used that text since M2 I can count on one hand.

Except I've never had online access to an anatomy atlas, and anatomy doesn't change much. So that's the one that I think you should keep.

Netter's.

Don't waste your time or space keeping anything else. I promise you won't use it.
