Kevin Ware and his poor tibia

Reminds me of the Sam Bowie injury long ago. Hopefully things end better for him than Sam. At least it wasn't down in his ankle, I guess. Terrible injury though.

Looks to be more diaphyseal, although its kinda hard to tell, which would unusual for NOF. You're right though, gotta wonder about a pathologic fracture. I heard they've already ORIF'ed it, so you gotta figure they excluded an underlying lesion.

That was my thought exactly. Watching the video I didn't think he did anything unusual to cause a break but stuff happens I guess.

That is really strange. I would expect torn ligaments in his ankle rather than a freakish tibia fracture like that. Just doesn't make sense.............. I watched the video a couple of times from different angles. Really weird.

I believe he had a right ankle injury earlier in the year. My guess is that, like most athletes, he assigned leg pain to that prior injury for quite some time and dismissed it. Stress fracture loomed, put just enough load at the right angle and snap.

I've seen tons of injuries happen in lifting and other sports from similar thoughts. Nagging pec pain for months before a tear, knee and posterior leg pain before hamstring tear, elbow and biceps pain before that snaps, and all the different bones as well. My experience is more with powerlifting and strongman, but I know athletes in multiple sports that have done it.
