The answer to this question is C, and I am wondering how somebody is expected to know that the block in the front and the block in the back are of the same height. Is this just a bad question? Because, I don't know how one could actually verify that to be true unless you use other lines for reference, which you can't really do in this case.

As somebody who does not have a lot of experience drawing and visualizing objects in my head, this illusion in particular is a constant source of frustration for me. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't think this is a bad question, but is in fact representative of what you'll see on the real thing. The objects are given in such a view that you're able to see all three sides- the front, the top, and the right side.

You can't imagine looking at it from the red dot, or else you might mistakenly pick B as your answer.
You have to imagine looking at it from the green dot, as if you're in the corner looking up. What you will see is answer C.
Hope this sorta helped 🙂

Hmm that's a really good point!! I will remind myself to try viewing objects in this way from now on. Thank you! 🙂

lol I wasn't trying to put anyone down. All I'm saying is if you tilt any 3D object towards you then the back will look longer than it really is.

Truthfully your explanation makes no sense to me, but each to their own. Just next time try not to bring someone down just to make yourself look better 🙂
