Hey everyone! I'm a freshman undergraduate who just got into KGI's SURE research program. It's underpaid so I was wondering if it's worth doing?
They told me explicitly:Underpaid or unpaid? Which is it?
I am not a fan of unpaid research. Higher education has been trying to do away with unpaid internships recently.
There was just a $20 app fee but otherwise it is free. I was accepted to the Public Health and Virology track and that really interests me so I hope i can work on a project that includes that. I currently attend a community college so I have been finding these opportunities on my own. I was rejected from all other in-person internships and this was actually my last choice but my only acceptance 🙁 It's impossible to find a summer research internship that's local because they prefer their own students (top 20 public and top 30 private universities). I rather not wait until I transfer as a junior to barely join research.Okay... it was unclear based on how they describe the program and your description of underpaid. I also want to be sure if you are/not paying to attend (application fee plus participation fee) if it is online.
What are you looking to get out of this experience? Are you only seeking it because it is available online? Have you tried seeking similar opportunities in-person closer to you? Do you have a prehealth club or office that also organizes similar experiences?
Can you describe how the program was especially if it was online? Were you able to actually do a research project or was it more of a lecture format?I got waitlisted but got accepted last year hahaha.
