New grad here looking to start a practice/buy out an existing doctor. My question is where do I get the resources to find out where these practices are (the ones for sale)? Is there some blue book/book that lists practices for sale. Is there some streamlined resource that provides all practices that are for sale?
-If you want to start cold, what is the first couple of steps I should take to pursue this endeavour?

Thanks for any advice you can offer. . .

There are online listings through the aoa, a group called practice concepts which brokers practices, the back of trade journals etc. etc.

You'll probably have the best luck with individual state associations and simply cold calling people.

As far as where to open cold, I've always maintained the number one criteria you should look for is medical plan access. Beyond that, most things are fairly minor.

Agree with Ken on the state associations being a good resource.
They often will know of prospects or can get the word out that you're looking.

Face to face contact with docs in the area you want to locate is also a good option. Often they'll say, "I'm not looking to sell/hire, but I bet Dr Smith might be interested."

Sometimes placing the seed in the mind of an older doc may be enough to get them thinking about selling (that's what happened for me).

I've found the practices listed in the national trade magazines to be overpriced and many have been listed for a looong time.

Get in contact with different reps too.. if you can get in good w/ a few, a lot of them have that inside scoop you may be looking for.
