Post in this thread when you are on call. Anything and everything.

I just finished watching what is perhaps the BEST bad movie I've seen in a long time. XXX: State of the Union - and not it's not a porno despite the unfortunate name. It had everything you could possible want in a movie, action, things blowing up, really, really bad and forced dialouge, quotes from TuPac (RIP - pour out a bottle of liquor for ya homie), and memorable quotes such as, "Don't do it for the red, white and blue! Do it for yourself! Do it for the right to hack and jack [cars] outside the White House!," Ice Cube, Xzibit, William Dafoe, Samuel L. Jackson, a tank battle on an aircraft carrier, "the Hood" in armored SUVs vs the military, and a scene where a cobra sports car catches a bullter train after the jumping the freeway onto the tracks whilst the tires chewed away to nothing and the wheels fit perfectly on the tracks. All of this come together to EQUAL AWESOME!!

Now I need a nap.

Pffft. What's this "call" you speak of?

I haven't had any "call" since September 2010. And I won't have any again until at least July.

Beat that.

See.

This is why we just can't form any community here in the IM forum.

Yeah, well don't expect this to change anytime soon. The Post-Match Press Conference thread only got minimal action despite >3,000 views. Basically, MS4's come here to post their topheavy rank-order lists, MS3's come here to start "What are my chances with only a 239 and HP in Medicine?" threads, and IMG's come here to start "I only wanna do cards/GI" threads. And that's about it.

👍

It's kind of sad when you put it like that. BUT . . . over the last three years I have seen gradually more and more action. You can't help a brother for trying.

I don't have cable at home, so this is awesome

It could get busy but for right now . . . 😀

I don't have cable at home either so do most of my TV watching while moonlighting. The downside is that the hospital has a sub-basic cable package so it's mostly Discovery and The Hitlerstory Channel.

Was on today. Everything was great until 2pm. Finished up clinic notes, went on a team brunch, actually did some cross cover bull**** like following up on optional recs, researched some new ETFs to look into... then the floodgates opened. 0 patients until 2, then eight over the next four hours. Made for a fun 😎 end to the evening. ACGME needs a cap of patients/hr in addition to total number of patients.

Wouldn't that be nice. You can generally time your admits based on the attending shifts in the ED. Expect to get your ***** handed to you 30 minutes before the end of each attending shift. Ours work 10s and the day shift is 7-5. 4:30 is usually a total cluster**** on the medicine ward.

I want to be part of the community!!!!! I like IM but am only a/an MS2...by the way an is only used before a word starting with a vowel but why does "a MS2" sound worse than "an MS2"? It just doesn't flow.

Sorry back to what I was going to ask, this is going to sound really dumb to ask but you know how they show in Scrubs that while you are at the hospital on your down time you can go workout and shoot hoops...is that true or is that just bull? Thanks!

"An" can also be used before words that sound like they start with a vowel....which is why you say "half AN hour" instead of "half a hour".

The letter M sounds like it could start with a vowel, which is why "AN MS2" probably sounds better than "A MS2."

If you have such a place on hospital grounds to workout and shoot hoops, then I guess you can go for it.

I'm in FM, so we have to rotate through general surgery. When we had down time between cases (some of the attendings were on vacation), we'd play frisbee on the roof. I had the coolest chief resident EVER that month.

Thanks for the response. That was a great explanation. I always wondered if that was an absolute or not.

I wanted to see how much time during residency you could get to workout. I am not trying to get ripped by any means I just want to get an hour of cardio and weights in to stay healthy. Do you think this will be possible?

Sure, you can do that kind of stuff, but you simply don't want to be too far away if something happens. So playing at the hoop out in the parking lot, might be too far away if you're on in the ICU for instance. I used to work out all the time on call, until they closed the hospital gym in the evenings and weekends. They said it was because they didn't have security go through there on the weekends and if someone got hurt or whatnot, no one would know. And apparently . . . don't ask me why this makes sense . . . it's just easier to close the gym than to simply have a guy wander through twice per shift?

But most of the time on IM call you're probably doing something patient centered the whole time - it's just busy.
