This may seem weird. It's been a few weeks since I have taken the DAT. I was happy with my scores, or at least satisfied with them enough that I decided against taking the test again. Now as time passes, and I see other scores online, I really wish I could study again and take the test again. I'm convinced that I could do better, although I will never find out.

The DAT was kind of like a game for me. I won, but now I want to go for personal records. I think I might get out a few unused practice tests and go at it again, just for personal glory. Maybe this is how Michael Jordan felt each time he retired from the NBA.

Am I alone in feeling this?

You guys who still have the test ahead of you: embrace it, enjoy it, and kill it.

mannnnn the DATs may be a game for you, but for me its hell.... lol... im still studying for this thing and gonna take it soon, but no way i will not miss studying 13 hours a day, not being able to go out because you feel guilty, seeing low scores from practice tests etc... no way... but if you miss them and want to take them again your choice.. good luck!!

I think that there definetly is a sense of nostalgia towards the exam. It was really fun learning all of the time in preperation for it. 🙁 Oh well, I know that I'll have other opportunities to study hardcore for other exams like NDBE's and all.

May as well just retake, IMO.... lol.... just don't send it to any schools unless you kill it....... haha...

It would feel so much easier taking it the second time, IMO, if your first scores are high. Noooo pressure...

Plus you are familiar with everything, style of the questions, etc. Expensive though... but if I retook and killed it, and it was too late for this year then I would hold off a year to get into one of my top choices....

Problem is, I think a lot of my science was saved in short term memory which was purged when I left Thompson Prometric after seeing my scores...

haha...good stuff. I feel the same way. It's weird just researching and shadowing now without the stress of having to study. I think I'm going to lightly study for the test and retake it sometime later just for fun.

If we take the test again are we required to report them to dental schools if we do worse on them?

Don't take it the wrong way. It was hell at the time. The pressure to perform was terrible and I was so thrilled to finish. I hope I didn't come across like a jackass. But the time will come when you too may suffer from Stockholm syndrome.

My scores were OK. The main improvement I KNOW I could make is on the PAT and QR. But that might come at the expense of my RC. Those all were between 20-24 when I did practices. I am just afraid that if I took it again my sciences would go down, so I don't want to think about it.

Ohhh noooo way bro.. dont worry, what you said didnt offend me or anything... right now its hell, but i am learning a lot so it only benefits me.. after its over im sure i ll feel the way you feel....

I do like studying alot of this stuff though.

I get the big picture WAY WAY WAY better than I ever did in my classes...

totally agree 👍
and like sacjumpman said...learning so much more than i did in a lot of these classes...kinda sad considering we paid so much for that undergrad education and yet i am learning more from the books and time i am spending which are only a fraction of what it was in undergrad (time and $).

I really miss studying for the DAT. I spent so many months doing 12 hour days in the library, now that it's over I don't know what to do with myself. I wish I could take the test again but without having it go on my record, as in, just for fun to see if I could get a better score. haha. Your def not crazy I feel the same way. I 😍😍😍 the DAT!!! yay!!

Do I miss it? Not even a little bit. Though I've been having trouble finding things to keep myself busy.

Actually, you are quite a Right..coz There is nothing else to do in the vacation but already annoyed with prfessors emails that ur school is starting soon huh..

Yah exactly... like studying 10x harder for the NBDE. It sucks. Enjoy not studying for a standardized exam for a couple years 🙂

haha, i'm in the same boat as OP. i don't really miss studying, but i feel like i could have done much better. however i certainly don't like these applications! god, personal statements and such will be the end of me.

My life feels empty now. I'm happy with my scores but with undergrad loans collecting interest I'm desperatly looking for a job to occupy myself which is no easy task in this market.

haha I kind of see why someone would miss it though. i'm only four days into freedom and i had a whole list of fun things I would do once this test was over but really all i'm thinking about it retaking it and scoring much higher than what i got. i think it just helps because all the pressure of the first time is off so you kind of know what to expect and the questions really aren't that bad so with some effort one could definitely best their personal score.

i love it because just less than a week ago i was spending sleepless nights poring over horrible sciency things (a dark dark time in my life haha) and now i'm thinking about starting it all again. it's so sick. so wrong.

Hahaha... I have the same feeling now!!! Just took it yesterday and now feel "blanked" Though, I'm now working on my applications...
