I am studying for my anatomy exam and dont understand whether klumpkes paralysis causes claw hand or ulnar claw? I know ulnar claw involves 4th and 5th digits and claw hand involves 2nd and 3rd digits. I didnt even know there were 2 types of clawing till now. Whats the difference between the two, is this a good scenario for klumpkes paralysis: "skiing down a hill and losing control and grabbing onto a tree with the right arm to stop" ? Thanks.

Klumpkes = total claw hand (ulnar nerve +median nerve). otherwise just remember what the nerves do (flex MCP and extend PIP/DIP) and they won't do that if injured

Well, C8 and T1 are involved in Klumpke's.

What nerves take root from C8/T1?

Ulnar has C8, T1 roots
Median has C5-T1 roots
Radial has C5-T1 roots but we can ignore it for now...

You can use nerve functions to go from there. Or you can open up your copy of Moore&Dalley and read the section on Klumpke's.
