hey -- wondering if anyone knows anything about the TY at Med Center of Columbus in GA, grand rapids, hurley medical canter and st. vincents in ohio. they went unfilled last year -- just wondering if anyone had any idea why? and what the schedule was like (call, hours, weekends, etc.) thanks in advance.😀

2 years ago, I interviewed at the program in Columbus Georgia. During the day, one of the interns pulled me aside and told me to not rank the place. From what he told me, they work horrible hours, take Q4 call the ENTIRE year (even during electives, you take medicine call at night), and are required to do OBGYN. It's a piss poor experience from what I understand.

I interviewed at Columbus a couple of years ago. I had lunch with 3 TY's (one post call) off campus and they all (uh, hum) recommended lookin' elsewhere. You are on call all year. Call is like family med... covering floor, ICU, OB/Gyn.

I was told by numerous interns that the reason they did not fill their TY last year was maily due to location. Toledo isn't exactly the most lively of towns. They have 20-22 spots for the unlinked rotating traditional internship- a lot compared to the usual 2-4 offered by most other programs I interviewed at.

From what I saw, the interns are happy. I've been told that you can have a life away from the hospital. You only take call for the service that you are on (peds month there is no call!!) for that month.

i interviewed there this year and they now have a night float system so you will not be on call q4 the entire year. esentially though, you are a family practice resident for a year. you will do absolutely everything, including ob/gyn with labor and delivery and surgery. there are only 3 residents on call for the ENTIRE hospital overnight. personally, i will rank it but it will not be in my top 4. biggest downside to me was taking call during electives. faculty seemed very nice though, and although they work hard, the intern i talked to felt it was not malignant, always under 80 hrs.
