The two pediatrics residencies in Kansas City: KU and Children's Mercy

Please share some information, the pros and cons to these programs. I want to stay in Kansas City. I have some ideas of what I like and dislike about the programs but I do need more information.

Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

i interviewed at KU last year on the med/peds front....I got the impression that most of the kids in KC head over to mercy...to the point I remember hearing that if you came to KU you would have the chance to go do a couple rotations over at mercy for exposure to this that and the other if you wanted. I'm sure you want more info, but something's better than nothing.

I interviewed at Children's Mercy in KC 2 years ago. I graduated from KUMC. Although I did not do my clinical rotations in KC, but chose to do them in Wichita I would think that it would be incredibly difficult to have those two programs so close together and one not lose out. Children's Mercy has some of the best facilities and technology available when compared to the 11 other programs I interviewed at. The people at CM seemed great. One of my classmates is there and is very happy. The hospital is well funded and has access to a great number of subspecialists. The program is considerably larger which for me was a draw back as well as the rigorous call schedule. I can't speak to the KUMC-KC program. I know that they have had several years where they have not matched. I would talk to the residents at KUMC and get their thoughts on it. Also, spend some extra time at both programs if you really want/need to stay in KC. Please feel free to email me if you have further questions.
