Anyone have any thoughts? I'm going into family practice.

Family practice ain't gonna matter where you go to school. Go to the cheapest one. That said, remember that you don't know where your interest lies once you get into medical school, so best not to close any doors. KUCMB is a very good, but getting into competitive residencies may be an issue since it's a DO school. I wouldn't rule it out but keep in mind that you will be a 'medical minority'. My suggestions would be to apply to all three and see what happens. If you get into all of them, I suggest you do the cheapest offer financially unless you *really* fell in love with one of them.

Just from what I've been able to figure out with my limited experiences with them..I rank them like this..

KCUMB
MU

KUMED

I have never once been impressed with KU MED...

If I got in to both KCUMB and MU, it would be a tough decision...If I got into KCUMB and KU..>KCUMB all the way.

And I'm a Kansas native that is not too fond of the state of Misery.

I must also add that those are very initial impressions, but working with and being in contact with KU Med at different times in my life has led me to believe I would not like it there at all. It just does not seem like a very friendly environment...and it seems they fancy themselves as something they are not.

At KCUMB, generally 50% of its student specialize. Yes you will be a medical minority because logically there are 20+ DO schools compared to 120+ MD schools. It is true that if you think you might want to specialize in an ultra competitve allo residency you may have some bumps in the road---but remember, it is hard for MD students to land in such spots as well. In the long run, patients do not give a damn what initials you have behind your name and that is what matters. I would go to the school I felt comfortable at and the one I thought would be more conducive for me to excel/meet my learning needs b/c med school is gonna be tough. The school for me is KCUMB---seamless systems based learning. They have a top notch pathology dept taught be the world renowned Dr. Friedlander.

Either KU or Mizzou, depending on your state residency. Definitely not KCUMB. It will cost you a lot more there.
