I dont understand this. So if a patient is in diabetic ketoacidosis, he will want to breath out CO2, thus getting rid of acid and raise the pH back to normal. That part I understand.

But then it says that Kussmaul breathing is slow, deep, labored breathing/hyperventilation. How can something be slow and deep and hyperventilation at the same time???

i could be wrong but i thought the slow, deep, labored breathing was needed for actual gas exchange to take place in order to relieve the DKA. thus that would limit how fast a person could actually breathe
