Hi,

I hope this is not a silly post. I am about to take my first chemistry lab and a lab coat is required. What is the best type of coat I will need (length, etc.)?

Thanks

Your school's bookstore will have the ones you need.

your bookstore will probably have anything you need; although the prices there are probably inflated. You can pick one up at a medical uniform/scrub shop near a hospital for ~ $25 or so. Just get something long enough to cover yourself down to your fingertips (arms down of course). I managed to order a really nice 100% sanfornized cotton lab coat with cloth buttons from the UNC Chapel Hill bookstore Online. You enter your waist, other measurements, etc. and for ~ $40.00 you get a lab coat that will probably outlast your career. I'd pick up a cheap polyester one for now though.

Full length you can expect to probably pay $25-30. Hopefully you can get a cotton one. Make sure to try it on because I had to go up in a size so that I could protect my wrists. I wish labcoats came in XLT, haha.
