I am looking to sum up all lab equipment questions. Input from people who actually took the test would be much appreciated. I am a return from the work force applicant and my Orgo I/II lab credits were via the "virtual lab" with University of New England. Needless to say, I haven't used any of this stuff in 10 yrs.

Mentioned in the 2009 Dat:
Erlenmeyer Flask- tapered for mixing.Good for recrystallization/reducing boiling vapor loss.
Beaker -Not designed for accuracy. A general use glass item
Pipet - transports premeasured volume of liquid?
Buret - used in titrations. Does spefic measurements.
Volumetric flask- calibrated for precise volume/temperature. Dilutions/solution prep
Graduated Cylinder- more accurate than flask/beaker, less than volumetric items.
Volumetric Pipet - allow the user to measure a volume of solution extremely accurately

Please refine any of the above info. Its mostly off wikipedia.
Please add anything you saw on the DAT or anything that could be asked on lab protocol etc.

Thank you!

Mark

You should know the difference between a beuret and a pipet. Also, know what separatory funnek is, know what polarimeter does and spectroscopy of course.
