Hello, last year I asked for work study and got it so I worked in a lab (grunt work).

I didn't get it in the fall but knew if I asked in winter I would get it and I did. So, should I continue that job or seek a better one? Is the longer time commitment viewed on favorably?

A longer term commitment is better than just one semester, but if you're just doing "grunt work" and not actually contributing to the research, it's of no benefit anyway. Many people go through a phase of "grunt work" and as they're in the lab longer, they get to work on projects and actually do research, so if your job will have the possibility of developing into actual research, then stick with it. If you're just going to be doing scut work again, find some actual research experience.

To go off what Ismet said keep in mind research doesn't really always have to be wet lab based. Clinical research does the job particularly effectively as well. Their, there is less concern over "grunt work" and learning all kinds of techniques and working your way up a lab hierarchy. Plus the time line for producing something is much faster. Food for thought.
