I read somewhere that this is a no no but I got to know my lab professor better than anyone. She's an "Adjunct Assistant Professor"...whatever that is. However, I had a different professor for the classroom portion(who's writing me a letter also). Advice?

I don't see why it would be a bad idea. Where did you read that? If she can testify to your academic and social abilities, etc, I don't see how it could be a bad LOR.

I think it should be fine as long as they got to know you academically. For me I got one of my lab professors to write me a rec, but that was a separate lab class from the lecture class (and I also ended up TAing the lab this past year).

I don't see a problem. If you think about it, if the lab is taught properly, you apply a lot of the information you learn in the lecture course to solving problems. You also have to be able to work well with others. I would think that it would be worth more than having a letter from a professor that spoke to you a few times in the semester in a class of over 300 students.

As long as the lab is a real course taught on campus (not independent research), then the letter should satisfy the science LOR req.
