For anyone who has taken the DAT and can say with experience.... is it necessary to study the laboratory review of cliff's AP Bio book?

Just wondering since I'd rather be doing something more efficient and not waste time if this section isn't really needed. It seems rather unnecessary.

Please let me know =).

Noo don't study the lab portion of the Cliffs.
But on the other hand, I hope you have a good sci background to answer some of the out-of-the-box questions that may show up on the Bio portion of the SNS.

😵 What do you mean? I'm a biology major but when you mention "out-of-the-box" questions... that freaks me out. I've forgotten like half the things I've learned from my (random) bio classes, haha. Can you give an example?

I took my DAT last December so I can't really think of an specific example (even if I could I'm not supposed to talk about it anyways), but I just meant some passage type questions that might ask you to apply your basic science knowledge to get the right answer. With you being a bio major.. I wouldn't really worry about it too much. I also tend to forget a lot of random bio factoids, but if you have a good background I'm sure you will do well.

use datqvault.com for random and weird Bio questions. Buy the membership and do all the questions they're very comparable to the real exam.

Waste of time, not essential

No, don't study the lab section of cliff's. There are no lab questions from what I recall. There may be hypothetical questions about lab techniques (like separation) but it will end up being a very general question. For example, they will set up a question about a separation technique to see if you know about the solubility properties of lipids or proteins. You will be fine if you have had any biology lab past general bio, especially biochem or cell biology/physiology. Actually, you'll probably be fine without them. Good luck!

Agreed. Also be aware that the plant section in Cliffs is too in depth.

=( Sad face. I've taken two upper-level plant bio/physiology courses, haha.

Anyways, thanks for all the input everyone!!!
