Laceration and ulcers?

Hey,

What distinguishes a laceration from an ulcer/erosion? I stumbled upon this term in the context of Mallory-Weiss syndrome, where it seems like literature exclusively use the term "laceration". Is it an ulcer or erosion!?
 
Laceration implies there is a linear cut while ulcer / erosion is a sore of the skin or mucus membrane due to tissue breakdown.

A linear cut? But even ulcers can be linear, e.g. in IBD (Crohn disease). I still don't understand lacerations...
