Hey all,

So I have a bit of a problem with how a few of my labs (or lack of) will look on my transcript.

This semester, I had to drop ochem lab for medical reasons, which at my school still unfortunately shows up as a W on my transcript. Additionally, for the next semester, all of the physics lab sections are closed (at my school, for some reason, there are about half the necessary lab spots for each science class; advisors also simply recommend taking them later) - so that won't be on my transcript either unless I manage to get in during the Spring.

My question is, will this look bad to adcoms looking at my transcript? I have several upper division Chemistry and Biology labs to partially make up for it, but I'm worried that it will look like I'm avoiding lab classes even though I physically haven't been able to do them. What should I do?

Adcomms looking at your transcript will be concerned that you can't possibly complete the required labs before matriculation if they accept you. Either start taking them at a local CC, apply only to schools that don't require them, or add a year to your timeline before applying.

Sounds like UCF. Take labs at another institution.

Ok so I simply need to take steps to get these labs done some other way? I wouldn't mind doing that, I was just concerned that it would look like I was avoiding labs for fear of academic rigor or something - I especially don't like having a W for ochem lab, even though in an interview I could easily explain (and show off the kind of cool medical reason for!) why this was the case.

You do need the labs for most medical schools. I would take them somewhere else if your uni doesn't have them. You don't need to finish them all before applying but you will need them to matriculate.
