Lack of Line Numbers on AAMC Verbal Passages

I noticed that both Princeton Review and Kaplan puts line numbers in the verbal passages, and when asking a detail question quoting something from the passage, it refers to it by line number.

But none of the AAMC tests that I have taken have line numbers on them-- it really threw me off at first after getting used to the Kaplan tests. I know there aren't too many questions that refer to a quotation in the passage, but even 2 or 3 questions might take me awhile to find in the actual passage if I'm not expecting it, wasting precious time and points!!

Has anyone else been bothered by this? And does anyone know if the actual MCAT has line numbers? Or was this a glaring error on part of the test prep companies to include in our practice tests?

Any suggestions on how to tackle these? I've definitely wasted at least 30 extra seconds per question to actually find the quoted phrases in the passage.

hey chemlover... if it makes you feel better, I am in the EXACT same boat as you. I have been doing mostly Kaplan full-length exams (saving my AAMC exams till last week and this week) and I was caught by surprise as well.

I hope someone who took the April / August MCAT can shed some light on this, but I can tell you my new test day strategy: I plan on quickly reading over the questions and skimming for these type of questions BEFORE reading the passages. That way, I can spot these phrases while I am reading and hopefully save some time.

On the real thing, there are lines passages in the verbal section. For some reason i think the old AAMC tests that are web-based dont have them. weird
