So I sent in my applications to 14 different schools in the NC, DC ,VA, MD area, and a
m very nervous about getting replies. My stats are as follows

University Attended - UNC - Wilmington
Undergrad Cumuluative - 3.67
Pre-req total = 3.82

Anatomy 1 + 2 B+, A
BIO- A
Chem 1 + 2 B, A
Math- B
Physics 1 + 2 A, A
AP psych credit, Developmental psych - A

GRE - Verbal 157
Quant- 153
Writing- 4.0

Observation-

Outpatient PT clinic - 50 hours
Inpatient rehab hospital - 1300ish hours (after volunteering there I was hired as a PT tech, where I currently work)

I've been told by so many people that unless you have a 4.0 you get put into a "separate pile" and it is incredibly competitive and difficult to get in.

My number 1 choice is UMD Baltimore, which I actually just got called in for an interview with.

Does anyone with experience have an opinion on my realistic chances? Here are the schools I applied to

East Carolina University NC
Elon University NC
George Washington University DC
Marymount University VA
Old Dominion University VA
Radford University VA
Shenandoah University
University of Delaware
University of Maryland - Baltimore
University of Maryland - Eastern shore
Virginia Commonwealth University VA
West Virginia University WV
Western Carolina University NC
Winston-Salem State University

Thank you!

Who are these people that told you this? You need to chill! You're for sure going to get into one of those schools.

As an admissions committee member, you should focus upon your motivation to become a PT and be ready to present yourself professionally and confidently. We want out applicants to have good academic potential, but also qualities such as self confidence, grit, resilience, and optimism.

Now that you've applied, step beyond these numbers and demonstrate to an admissions committee that you are someone who they would want to work with and who they could see as part of the PT profession. When you exude professionalism, optimism, confidence, motivation and a great sense of humor--then you can make yourself an easy choice for any of your programs. Moreover, when you can show that you truly care for the healthcare of others in a safe, evidence based manner, then the importance of those statistics diminishes.

Both prereq and cum GPA are competitive. GRE scores are as well. Go into your interviews with confidence and relax. I think you will surprise yourself. Best of luck!

Who have you been talking to!? lol. To be honest, when I first read the initial part of your post I was expecting you to have around a 3.0 and low GRE scores, and that's why you're worried. Based on your stats though, I would be surprised if you didn't AT LEAST get into half of your schools.

Good luck.

I really appreciate your advice. I've never been more motivated in my life, and my job as a therapy tech has been already been so fulfilling that I know this is the career for me. There is no feeling in the world (for me, at least) that matches the feeling of being a part of the healing process of someone in need. The connections I have made with patients has truly given me happiness, and the impact I have seen PT's make has given me the drive to become the most impactful and knowledgeable PT I can be.

I'm not sure why the people I have come in contact with have given me such harsh warnings, but all throughout undergraduate I have been told that to get into a DPT program you need more or less all A's, (I've literally been told "if you're white, male, and don't have a 4.0, GOOD LUCK). This put a tremendous amount of pressure on me, but I suppose the stress helped me in some cases.

I will take your advice seriously and ensure I keep my head up and remain confident and professional throughout all possible interviews. This is my dream!

Thank you so much,

Tim

Well, nearly everyone from my school told me that if you get even a B in anatomy schools tend to look away, and I have been told time and again that PT school is the most difficult med school to be admitted into due to # of applicants, standards raising, e.t.c. I guess I should have done some research for myself (especially on this forum) instead of listening to these people (just made an account last night, haven't really browsed around yet).

I appreciate your kind wishes, you guy's have really improved my outlook and confidence for this cycle.

Best of luck to you in your endeavors!

Tim

Your stats are way better than mine were by a long shot. GRE scores and your GPA are on point and you have more than enough clinical hours. Keep your head high and don't waver. You will get interviews for sure

Tim,
I'm now on the boat you were in.
My stats are at about your ranges, but I'm sort of nervous too.
The new application cycle has not been opened yet.

Could you tell me from which schools you got either interview invitations or acceptance?

U of Pitts
U of Delaware
U of Maryland -Baltimore
are my top choices.

Hello! I actually got interviews at each school I applied to, and was accepted into each program I had interviews for (UMB, UDEL, GWU, Marymount, and Shenandoah) I decided on UMB, and am currently in my second week of anatomy! Take a deep breath, you'll be fine as long as you focus on the interviews. Best of luck!

I applied to ECU, WSSU, and WCU with your exact cGPA and pGPA and got into all three. My verbal GRE was a little higher and my writing was a 4.5, but otherwise our stats were super close. I also only had 130 observation hours because I applied a couple of years out of undergrad and was working full time. I feel sure you will get in somewhere. Especially if you rock your interviews (which you're going to get).
