I heard from my friend that we would probably be using laptop everyday.. I was wondering if I need a really good graphic card ...(im not a gamer at all). So my question is... are any there softwares we need to use during our 4 years ??? most laptop's video card arent that good =/

I don't know for sure, but I highly doubt any pod school requires a laptop with a good graphics card. If anything you will probably just be using your laptop everyday to type notes and listen to podcasts.

I think a laptop that's light, portable and reliable will do - nothing too over-the-top.

If you can buy whatever laptop you want consider the following: an HDMI output (so you can watch lectures on TV), a full keyboard (with number pad - you may not want this, but I wish I had it), a USB3 port for getting old materials from upper classmates.

Don't get a Toshiba. Mine is from 2010 (graduation present) and since I've had it, the display drivers always crash when I watch videos, specifically HD or widescreen, but it is incredibly annoying. Friends have alerted me of the same problems with their Toshiba's as well.

thanks for the input guys. I was going to get a laptop without a great video card (Intel HD 4000). but other specs are pretty good like 3 usb 3 port/blue ray/ 6gb memory/ i7 2.4ghz /// I 'm personally is not a gamer, but I just want to get a solid laptop that will last me a good 4 years- just afraid that there are some special softwares we are expected to use which would require really great graphic/video card. I had to get an expensive laptop for my biomedical engineering program during my undergrad years.. but that computer died on me already.. so I needed to get a new one. 😡

The laptop you just described seems expensive. Ito were you, I'd buy a laptop for half the price, then buy another in two years. Laptops are expensive and can break/sea down easily. I've never found it prudent to invest heavily in laptops, technology changes quickly and you are already paying a premium to put that in a laptop. Just my thoughts:

I just did what Maxillo described above-got a good deal from black friday and hope it will last all 4 years, but I didn't wanna break the bank either....pod school will do that for me.

sorry to revive an old thread, but im also in the process of getting a new laptop for pod school. of course i want the latest and greatest, something that is future-proof as well as sexy. 😀

since my parents have agreed to buy me a laptop as a gift, i dont really have a price limit, but i would like to keep it reasonable, ~ $1,500.

i like the macbook air, but the screen is wack. if they put a retina screen in it, i would seriously consider.

the macbook pro 13 of 15" with retina is nice, and not too expensive after educational discount.

or the samsung series 9 with the eye-popping screen and slim design. this one is the sexiest to me but the trackpad is inferior and i dont know about windows 8.

there's also the HP envy which is nice but it's not pavlov's dog like the other two. if money wasn't an option, which laptop would y'all get for 4 years of podiatry school?

good for you. But seemingly $$ is definitely a problem for my parents and me, there are times we just couldn't pay the rent...... in the past... anyway, I think I will be checking up on some deals and just buy something reasonable.. most likely in the 500$ range...... -_- 😱 good luck, all

Debating as to what to get for myself. I have a 3 year old laptop that while works is showing its age and gasp is only a single core CPU. I tend to like to hand write my notes as I remember it more than typing. Thinking of getting a decent desktop and getting a nice tablet with a keyboard for my mobile needs or just getting a decent laptop off the bat. I just like desktops as you get more "horsepower" dollar for dollar vs notebooks
I agree it is not worth buying a $1500+ laptop, most break or get stolen in a few years. Batteries only last 2-3 years anyway new battery is about $100+ IIRC

i think $500 gives you a lot of options if you're looking for a good note taker. maybe you can snag a good deal on an older model when the new one debuts?

that's why i will get apple protection, b/c i've had laptops break on me (and ipads). and i think i will put a tracking device on my laptop if it's within reason, like not too expensive.

so what laptop are you looking at?
