If you're using that piece of yummy, tell me about it.

I'm pricing out laptops and am very much thinking about going with an XPS M-class. Figured I may as well do it now and worry about maybe getting something else for med school later.

How do YOU like your M1330 / M-something?

very light and portable

Which M1330 are you planning to buy - the T7100 or T7250 or T8300 etc. model? A couple of things you have to consider when choosing a laptop are the size (dimensions + weight) and what you want to do with it (will it be used for gaming of for resource-heavy 3D apps etc.).

T8300 or higher because I'm a processing power *****.

Laptop will be used for the usual laptop stuff - browsing, email, MS Office, so forth - and may or may not be used for games depending on the capability of a decent proc and Nvidia's mobile GPU currently available in the M1330s. Also a good reason to maybe opt for the T9300 for the 6 MB cache, if not the 100 MHz increase over the T8300.

Size/weight are priority for me. That's why I'm not thinking about going with the M1530, as much as I'd like a bigger screen. Hell, my desktop is a 22" widescreen, so I'm used to having desktop real estate.

Also, here's a good chart comparing all the best/latest mobile processors - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

If you want a T9300, I suggest this one over the Dell T9300. It's cheaper by about $1000 (Dell-branded laptops/PCs are always overpriced) and uses Vista Ultimate (compared to the Home Premium Edition from Dell).

For the T8300, go with this one if you fancy a 17" screen instead of the Dell version (Vista or XP). Not only is it cheaper, but it has more installed RAM plus bigger HDD size.

For the 15" screen version of the T8300, go with this one instead of the Dell version. Sure, the Dell version has 70GB more of HDD (usable is probably around 50GB) but it's about $300 more (excluding shipping and handling).

All of the above are perfect for what you need except when it comes to a LOT of gaming (you can't max out Crysis or play Oblivion with all the texture overhaul mods, for example). Although I gotta admit, those XPS are a 10/10 when it comes to style!

Looks like a very nice Lappy - both of them - but the thing is that I can get an XPS with a T9300, 8400GS, the LED display, etc., for $1400 courtesy of 25% off coupons on notebookreview.com. And being of small size and weight are important to me, so 15" / 17" probably would sabotage that a bit. I'm kind of liking the idea of having a notebook that's about an inch thick and weighs around four pounds.

Thank you for the proc links, though!

i think t8300 will be the best of all bcoz of it astonishing features and compact.... jus hav a look on it b4 using....

I'm on a XPS M1330 and am smitten. It's portable and fast (Vista, if that's what you're planning on using, was fairly fast--about the speed of XP on your average PC). Battery life is... Well, a bit of a disappointment. I've only a 6-cell, of course, but it lasts me 3-4 hours without doing anything that's going to eat up the power. If you're gaming on this, the keyboard is compact, so beware. The media buttons that come installed are a pain in the butt to use. Too cramped together, and they're not tacitile. Also, whenever you use the optical drive, any music that you are playing will stutter until the CD is in/out. I love it anyway.

very light and portable than lenova :(

Posting in my own thread to let you all know that the rumor is that version 2.0 of the XPS line is supposedly coming out later this month. Unsure of anything else, but notebookreview.com might be worth a look.
