Sorry if there is a similar thread out there, but I will be buying a Macbook Pro soon and am debating between the matte and glossy screens. I currently have a pc with a glossy screen and I love the colors, but I have noticed that it is hard to see sometimes (ie. in the library or classroom) because of the glare.

Anyone out there have experience with one or both in dental school that can offer their two bits?

Well, I'm starting dental school this summer, but the difference between matte and glossy on the MBP is glare and high contrast colors. The Glossy screen will reflect more light and be very high contrast. This is good for watching movies in dark places, but for photo or video editing, this can be problematic because it will not show accurate colors. If you do either of those often, consider the matte screen. I also think the glossy screen gets dirtier more easily than the matte screen which could be a factor if the computer will be taken into a pre-clinical area or clinic. You can't go wrong with the Macbook Pro though! It's a great computer.

If you do a google search for glossy vs. matte screen on MacBook Pro, you will get a more thorough and technical answer than on this forum. It's ultimately up to your personal preference. Good luck!

I have 2 laptops: one matte and one glossy and I have to tell ya, for dental school, I couldn't live without my matte screen. I keep the other one at home for movies and things. It's too glossy to take out anywhere near sunlight 😉

I had a glossy macbook for 2 days before I took it back and got the matte finish macbook pro. I use the study rooms at school a lot and the lighting caused a glare on the glossy screen that was driving me nuts. Glossy looks great but under the wrong lighting it was just annoying. My dad has the glossy Macbook Pro and does a lot of photography, but he still gets annoyed by glare under certain lighting. Hope this helps.

thanks for all the input; I was leaning towards matte and I you guys have helped me make up my mind. matte it is!
