I am seriously considereing the HP 1012, but I had a horrible experience with my last HP inkjet, and while the 1012 looks good, I am wary...not to mention reluctant to give my $ to Hp after the inkjet debacle.

Any other Mac users with thoughts on this or other good laser printers that are reasonably priced?

Thanks.

HP has gone down the crapper since Fiorina took over. She's gutted everything that was good about the company while failing to compete with Dell in the commodity PC box market. The quality has completely disappeared in the last few years. They quit making what were easily the best calculators in the world, too.

The day the fired her useless ass the market valuation of HP went up by about 4 billion dollars.

I prefer either Brother or Canon printers now.

I couldn't agree more. I used to have a lot of respect for and confidence in HP. She certainly made her mark.

There is a Brother that I was looking at (1440), but it's a little older and only has 2 MB. Not sure.

I have always been partial to laser printers. With that said, I've been even more partial to MFC's. I've had a good experience with the Brother MFC-9700. If you don't need faxing, there's a cheaper version without the fax. In the long run, it's cheaper to have a laser than an inkjet. However, if you need color, then that's a different story. To be quite frank, color is pretty useless unless you print photos. Even then, I'd rather take it to a photo lab and have them do it cheaper and faster than I can.

Yesterday while I was browsing the isles of CompUSA for a photo printer, I stumbled upon a Samsung color laser printer with standard duplex printing. The cost? $399! I still can't believe that a $400 laser printer prints in color and on both sides of the page at 21 ppm black. I'm seriously considering purchasing one.

I just need B&W and want the laser. Thanks for the suggestions - I don't need the MFC, so will check out other Brother units (not the 1440 since it only has 2 MB). Any thoughts on any particular ones?

Not sure if you are a Mac or PC guy. If you're a Mac user, be very careful with Samsung as some do not support Macs, or even more confusing, some support some Mac OS and not others (e.g. OS X, but not the newer Panther).

I believe you're correct that some samsung printers are windoze only, but I have a samsung ML1710 laser printer, and I use Mac OS X (10.3.8 - panther) and it works very well.

I have recently connected it via a printserver (to share the printer with another mac and a PC) this slowed it down a lot, has anyone used apple's "airport express" as a printserver - does it work well ?

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I went for the Brother 5150D. It has great specs and reviews, plus the duplex feature which I will use most of the time, and I found it for the price of a lower end laser.

Another long time HP fan defects, thanks to Hurricane Fiorina's destructive wake.

Well, I have the Bro set up and it is sweeeet! Of course, I need to keep my fingers crossed and hope it is also reliable for the long haul.

Thanks for the suggestions.
