I, too, thought about it. I spoke with the opthalmology chairman, who was wearing glasses and said, "you'll notice I have not elected to have the surgery". Enough said for me. It is an elective surgical procedure that is considered cosmetic. The vast majority of the time, the outcomes are fine. However, in a small percentage of people who undergo the procedure, there can be serious consequences. It is up to you if you are willing to sacrifice your surgical career for the freedom of not wearing glasses should you fall in the small percentage of people who have significant issues with the procedure. Personally, I enjoy being an otolaryngologist and did not want to risk my career. I do get envious of those who have had the surgery and have had excellent outcomes, but cannot bring myself to accept the possibility of a bad outcome.
