My last secondary is for Utah. Due next Friday and I am still scratching around, trying to get the six letters of reference in by then. I submitted a whole ton of ec ref's, plus my committee letter, and have been working with my premed office since early October, trying to get some of the others in. I am just about to give up.

I need two more profs to write me evals, and do this before next Friday. Otherwise, that's it for this year.

I know I've asked this before, but anyone else have trouble with this pesky requirement? It is so frustrating to me to have all kinds of evals from lots of people, but not be able to somehow get them in. 😡

I really like the school and the city but I am afraid I might not make it for this year -

You have my sympathy. As a Utah resident that was my best chance of being accepted. Unfortunately as a non-trad. I found their letter requirements impossible to complete. I was only able to apply to out-of-state state and private schools.
The requirements are ******ed and there is no compromise.

People wonder why we are so bitter at the U of U, it's frustrating to get crushed in the cogs of their pre-med machinery, while frantically jumping through hoops. +pissed+

I love the area too. Change is good though. 😉

Call the admissions office and ask to speak to Cathy (she is very sweet), explain to her how much it means to you to make the deadlines and how you are so close but need an extra 10 days (or whatever you need but be reasonable). Tell her you can send in your stuff by the deadline, but you wont be able to get in 2 of the letters (or however many it is). Maybe she can help if you are sincere and honest with your problems. It cant hurt to ask if it really means that much to you.

There are a lot of hoops, but if it is meaningful than do whatever you can to make it happen!

Woolie,

i feel for you. When I was applying, several prof's never got their letters and I had to drop a few schools I wanted to apply to. Good luck, jumping through the hoops is worth it. After that you can spend many days skiing in the fresh snow, rock climbing and so forth.

As far as the 6 letters go, from talking to those in the admissions office, they are supposed to represent the areas the med shool wants you to have experience in (research, shadowing a doc, volunteering, etc). I get the impression that it is their way of ensuring that the activites you participated in were valuable, at least valuable enough that you could get a letter of rec from it. Kathy, in the admissions office, is fantastic. She will help in any way that she is allowed to.
