I was on the last group of students who interviewed at UNLV today. For the people who were there today, how do you think you did? I think my interview went well.

so the last interview for alternate list where on April 13th. Interesting. I interviewed on March 30th with Dr. Ancajas..I am still waiting to hear from themm..soon..I really liked teh school what about you

I actually work at the dental school, unlike some of us here pretending to be (786mine)!! 😡 I love UNLV SDM, I was one of its initial employees and I am forturnate enough to have played a good part in helping build the school. Just like any new school, or any new business there are "kinks" which need to be worked out, and the school is going in the right direction. I am really hoping to make it on the 2010 list. The one thing I not like is the high tuition, even for instate. However, as Dean Farillo put it nicely, "think of it as a good investment in your future." So I have no regrets about my choice. Did you make it on any other school's list? Good luck to you, and good luck to me 🙂.

soswank, I'm really surprised that you interviewed on the last day of UNLV's calendar, since you work at the dental school and know everyone and all... I thought you would be getting big time preferential treatment. If what this 786mine said was true that the adcom actually discouraged you from applying (I'm not sure if he/she was telling the truth), why do you think that is? Is a certain part of your application weak? It's just kind of strange and I'm curious...

Perhaps soswank is actually 786 trying to save face. 🙂

(just kidding)

To be quite frank with you I am sick and tired of hearing this 786mine chap.

Regarding my application for 2006, I did not think I would have had an uphill battle with my admission. I do not think that UNLV SDM's adcom discouraged me from applying, if they did I would not have even made it to the interviews. I am still grateful to Dr. Ancajas that I even made it up to the interview. Dr. Ancajas or Dr. Brownstein have always been helpful and answered my questions thoroughly. Overall I have very competitive DAT scores and an average GPA. I retook the DAT to improve my scores and am taking upper level biology courses to show that I can do this. Actually I would avoid contact with the admission's office as much as possible so that I would not come across as someone wanting to get in just for the sake of working there.

Would I have liked to be on the acceptance list, of course I would. Looking hindsight, I do wish I had started taking pre-dental classes a year before so that I would be applying for 2009, of course I would. But that is all in the past, I did well on my interview, I have competitive scores, I am instate and hopefully I will get on the waiting list. If I am meant to me, I am meant to be, that is how I am looking at it.

One of the drawbacks of working in close proximity to the faculty/staff/students is that you are in constant contact with people and there are more chances that one might say something which might be misinterpreted. Is this my case, I do not believe so. You can understand how frustrating the admission process it, but then this is life. I apologize if this reply is a bit beyond my 2 cent. I needed to vent.

hey soswank, why do you think almost everyone in our histology class is nuts for dental school? Is this some kind of hype :meanie:

Dr. Ancajas is nice. How do I say this without getting my foot in my mouth... the only reason she doesn't seem nice is because she is so focused on her work that she forget to give a smile. Once overcome her intimidating position, she's a cool person to talk to.
