Hey guys. After 2 rejections I'm getting a little bit antsy and I have some extra money so I was hoping for some suggestions on maybe slipping in a school or two. Here's my current list:

Albany
BU
Geisel
Georgetown
Hofstra
Quinnipiac
Rosalind Franklin
Jefferson
Temple
TCMC (rejected)
Ohio State
Tufts
Pitt (rejected)
Rochester
Brown

My stats are 3.73 gpa with strong upward trend. 521 MCAT (130/132/130/129). 60 hours of shadowing, 400 hours of volunteer clinical research with publication maybe by December (probably won't be relevant to app due to timing). Also what I can only assume are strong letters and essays. No non-clinical volunteering, which I hope isn't as detrimental as I'm starting to believe.

One I was thinking of adding was NYMC, none others come immediately to mind.

Edit: Thanks in advance

a bunch of those schools receive a lot of apps. what is your state of residence?

Stellar MCAT. Personally think you should have added 5 or more mid-top tiers: Emory, Einstein, USC, Miami, UVA types

The lack of non-clinical volunteering is not a great thing but what's done is done. The fact you got outright rejected from TCMC as an in-state resident without a II relatively early comes as a surprise. It might perhaps be possible that reveals a flaw in your application. At least just as likely though(probably more so honestly) is your app just didn't seem to fit with what TCMC was looking for and/or it is simply one school and running to conclusions from that one school is foolish.

Being a PA resident in your shoes makes things a little tricky because while they have a number of schools with IS bias these aren't state schools that might perhaps be more inclined to take top stat applicants who's considered lower yield than your TCMC's and Jefferson's of the world(it's another reason why not to take the TCMC rejection out of proportion).

But applying to any more schools now serves no purpose. All you can do is wait. The issue you might run into is your 38 MCAT being too high for schools like Albany, Georgetown, Rosalind, and Quinnipac and your EC's not being good enough for schools like Ohio State OOS and Brown and Boston U which are rather low yield to begin with(especially Brown) or not make you fit for what Geisel's looking for.

That said it is too early to be panicking. You still have a rather legitimate chance of getting a II at Jefferson or Temple in particular and your stats are at the very least very competitive for all the schools you applied to. You are still in a relatively favorable position.

When did u apply and how many IIs do u have?
It might be too early to panick.

TCMC rejected within two weeks of finishing my secondary. I really think it was yield protection based on the disparity between my stats and their averages. Although you certainly are correct, TCMC especially is service oriented and the lack of non-clinical certainly didn't help.

Yeah there's no great answer there. Its certainly easy to just chalk it up to yield protection and it may be the case, but when we talk yield protection we often aren't talking about it for schools that have a mission to recruit PA students and where 80% of the class is PA residents.

UVA may be good. It's a top 25 and they take relatively a lot of OOS. I am originally from PA and was admitted there (granted 10 yrs ago) with a 3.88, 37 and little to no clinical shadowing...actually no shadowing...haha. I did gave a PhD before applying though.

There were several PAers in my class as well. UVA interviewed late into the season when I was there.

However, when I applied, I added a few schools late in the season and got back 0 invites.

It would take schools 1-2 months to send you IIs.
Did you apply to Penn State?

No actually. Tried and tried but for the life of me I couldn't get a letter from a non-science professor so I just left Penn State out. Now sort of regretting that. At this point I would have had them just scribble words on the LOR and just throw my hat in the ring.
