Last-minute Tufts app question!

okay...yes, i know this is down to the wire. and i should have asked about this ages ago, and so on. but i'm just wrapping up all these short/long answer questions for the tufts app, and for this last question (the equivalent of the VMCAS explanation statement), i'm having some minor panic. i was just planning on putting mostly the same stuff i put in the VMCAS explanation statement, as well as a more detailed list of activities post-college because i'm a non-trad. but i've heard a few people talk about attaching their VMCAS personal statement, and then suddenly i was wondering about attaching a resume, and then i wondered if there was something ELSE completely obvious that i'm missing, and...my mind ran away with me. wondering if anyone else wants to share a general idea of what they think is generally included in this space?

I'm not applying to Tufts, but just wanted to say good luck! You aren't the only procrastinator around. Mizzou is kicking my butt at the moment.

Procrastinators unite! I'm currently working on Tufts (er, panicking over Tufts?). I uploaded my VMCAS personal statement to that section because I actually really like it. I think it contains a lot of important information that my application would feel incomplete without. I probably won't add my VMCAS explanation statement anywhere, as it didn't really contain much information that I feel is make-or-break important. Hope this helps - GOOD LUCK!

I am also finishing up the Tufts application!

And I'm really glad I decided to procrastinate because I didn't even think to upload my VMCAS PS into the last essay section. I probably would have just left it blank! and I had been lamenting that Tufts would never see it, so thank goodness I didn't submit yet and saw these great ideas!

Hopefully I will submit tomorrow morning-ish! Good luck everyone

Right on! sigh... about 300 more words to go on that historical figure one. and then I"M DONE!!! woohoo!!!! Like with all of my apps!

I think i'm leaving my explanation statement blank. my vmcas ps was truncated and modified to fit the ps prompt so i'd feel super silly.


I swear, procrastination is the best way to churn out good quality stuff efficiently! I've never felt like my procrastinated essays were any worse than my well thought out ones.... they just take 1/10 of the time...

Wait----Do some vet schools not look at your VMCAS application?? I worked super hard on that personal statement, and for a lot of the supplementals I wanted to just put "see personal statement." I tried (and am still trying--MizzU!!!) to make sure I never duplicated stuff, just explained it differently. Is this only Tuft's?

Tufts is one of the vet schools that doesn't use VMCAS. they have their own application. For the schools you selected on your vmcas application, those schools use vmcas and will look at your vmcas in its entirety.

i did the same thing. i was only 2 essays away...but i just couldn't do it. i know it sounds ridiculous..

I know my application is not going to be the most brilliant (I pretty much started it last night 😛), but want to submit something since I really really like Tufts. I am extremely thankful for the extra hour due to daylight savings and the extension until 9am EST tomorrow. Who knows, maybe that brilliant writer that is hiding within will appear just long enough to knock out some essays. Good luck to everyone who is still working on the app.

I'm filling in the last few bits of the app, and I was about to start adding vet/animal experience when the directions confused me... they specify, "experience gained working with animals in the veterinary profession or in a research or biomedical setting." Does this mean that they do not want us to list our other experience -like working on a farm or in a zoo- if it wasn't under a vet or researcher? But that seems odd...

Anyway good luck to all the other last-minute submitters!

I'm hoping for the same! I started the application a long time ago, I just put off the essays until this weekend. Bad decision on my part since their wildlife program is SO good and I would SO want to go there...Thank goodness for daylight savings being over. Even though it's dark, it's early. So I've got plenty of time to quarantine myself in the library until I'm application-free!

It's odd to me that people post their VMCAS personal statements in the "additional info" section for the Tufts app...because the VMCAS ps is SO much longer than any of the other Tufts essays! I assumed that the additional info spot was supposed to be brief and extra info like explanations of your experiences and grades.

I love my VMCAS ps so I'd really like to include it, but is there a chance it could work against me? Like they'd be pissed that I uploaded this HUGE essay in that space? 😕

Ok, I guess that's a good point. Hmmm, I'm SO tempted to do it! Especially since it seems that it's not a totally uncommon thing to do. Hehe, peer pressure works! I love jumping on the band wagon.

Especially since my VMCAS ps rocked, and my explanation statement is more like "oh hi, um, my undergrad grades weren't that hot but since then I've done a lot to bring up my GPA. Don't hate me?" Yeah...not as awesome as my ps.

That's bizarre. I just submitted mine and it worked just fine. Are you sure you were clicking the right buttons?

most of mine's done, was just trying to get back in to upload all my docs. was waiting for my glass of wine 'til i pushed the submit button, but surely this is a good enough excuse...

I got the email too! It says 9am Monday.

I emailed them with a screenshot of the problem. Maybe everyone experiencing probs should email so tufts knows its an issue? I'm going to bed I have 2 major exams tomorrow. Hopefully this will be cleared up soon

I e-mailed Tufts as well as Embark.com with the issue. Hopefully this is solved quickly and if not, hopefully they extend the deadline again since I'm at work all day tomorrow :-/ I am so not going to be able to sleep tonight *worry worry worry*

Maybe this is their strategy for weeding out procrastinators... tell us there's a deadline extension, then watch us all have heart attacks as our applications fail to enter with 7 hours left. What other reason could there be for the deadline to coincide with the time the office opens 😉

Either way, tomorrow afternoon = sleep.

I emailed Tufts about the issue and they replied to me:

We have just been made aware that the 2010 application site has not been available since midnight. At this point, we have no idea what the issue is or why the site came down. We are truly sorry for this inconvenience.
Once we have contacted Embark to get the site back up, we will email you again with the details and a new deadline date/time.
PLEASE DO NOT WORRY! We will accept all applications.

I wasn't able to preview my uploaded documents, so I called my best friend just before midnight and asked her to log into my app just to double check that I had uploaded the correct answers to each question. Then at a few minutes after midnight I realized I couldn't even get back to the login page for the 2010 application (only the 2005 application - wtf?!). I was still on the phone with my friend who was still logged onto my app, so (after freaking out for a few moments) I gave her my CC info had her submit it for me. It was pretty nerve wracking, but I'm glad to hear they're working on and it no one will be penalized!

Stumbled on this thread just now (been up to my eyeballs in Anatomy, Dev. Anatomy, & P-Chem).....
