Hello everyone,
Just wondering if anyone could clarify a couple things about the 4th lor..
1. Who are we allowed to ask for a late LOR from? and
2. What would be a good "target date" to have it in by?

Thanks once again! 🙂

1. My understanding is that the late letter can be only from a writer who is in your particular specialty that you are applying to, but check the CAS manual.

2. The program should have it in your folder by the time of your interview. Take into account the fact that it takes SFmatch ~3-4 weeks to turn over to your distribution list. I'd shoot to have it to SF match by early October.

Thanks eyedr.
The CAS manual does say it has to come from "your specialty". I had just been told differently. When in doubt, I agree, best to follow instructions 🙂 .

Yeah I agree, Its good to follow the directions to be safe, even though I've heard people do otherwise. Also, dont forget it has to be from someone you worked with in a "late" rotation.....ie during or after you submitted your initial application.

😕 So can you submit a letter from an ophthalmologist who you are doing research with, though not in the context of an official ophthalmology elective? For example, I am doing amb medicine now, but have been devoting much of my time to the ophtho research project.

Has anyone ever submitted a late LOR from an ongoing longitudinal?

I dont see why not. Just include the dates you worked with the ophthalmologist as the CAS requests.
