Hi all,

I just recently learned about the post-bacc and SMP options and I am wondering if its too late to apply for Fall 2008 semester. My GPA is ~3.18 and after reading through the threads, I think a post-bacc would be my best option. I am wondering if science majors (I have a BS in Biology) are allowed into post-bacc programs as well? I haven't found too many that are accommodating to students who have previously taken a lot of the science requirements already. Bryn Mawr application deadline was January 15 and Hopkins recommended deadline was February 1. How much luck do you think I would have applying to those schools even after the deadline? Also, if anyone knows of other post-baccs around Pennsylvania-Maryland area, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks🙂

You would be a good candidate for the UPenn Special Science program. It is for students who have a science background, but need to improve their undergrad GPA. Check it out at http://www.sas.upenn.edu/CGS/postbac/premed/specialscience/.

Thanks for the link, Caliprincess. I am planning on applying to med schools this year for the Fall 2009 cycle. I think after reading Braluk's comment in another thread, he mentioned something about keeping the Adcoms updated on his studies during the application process. My plan was to attend a Post bacc or SMP while waiting to hear back from medschool and keeping them updated on my progress. Do you think UPenn will accept me under these circumstances or should I look for something else?

bump. This is my situation as well.

Bryn Mawr and Hopkins are 'career changer' programs -- if you have a BS in Bio, they will not consider you. You need to have taken little to no science, especially the medical prereqs, to be considered for admission. This is stated with extreme clarity on their websites.

I imagine what you're looking for is an SMP, a subject on which I am not well versed; many others here are, however. I do know that Penn's Special Science is supposed to be pretty good, though.

Yeah, I'm def going to apply to the UPenn program. Does anyone know how many they generally accept?
